GNFA 2013 Youth merit award

1.     GNFA is pleased to announce its 2013 Youth merit award of $2,000 to a college bound HS Senior. Please read the attached compliance criteria and submit the application form no later than June 16, 2013.

2.     GNFA will also recognize all 2013 High School and College graduates of GNFA Community on July 30th. Please forward your name and any other you know of (with e-mail address) to Gajinder Singh ASAP.

Camp Virsa 2013

It is that time of the year to announce the camp dates for this year. The GNFA camp will be held from July 1st – July 5th from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. The theme this year is Sikh women, in history and today.

Special Diwan by GNFA Youth on Dec 25th @7:30pm

Waheguruji Ka Khalsa, Waheguruji ki Fateh!

As has been the tradition for the last 7 years, we will have a special Diwan by students & youth of GNFA on the evening of December 25th, 2012 from 7:30-9:30 pm. All grade teachers are requested to forward names from their classes or contact parents for the same.

Parents your child can either do:

  1. Speech in Punjabi or English (2 mins)
  2. Poem in Punjabi (1-2 mins)
  3. Shabad related to the theme (5-8 mins)
  4. Young ones can recite a shabad (if they cannot play harmonium)
  5. Narration of Sakhi (2-3 mins)

For Participation:
To register for the event we will need your child’s name, age & title of shabad , speech or poem. Please register by Sunday to ensure time slot for your child.

You will find lot of related material on the internet for this especially youtube. Monthly magazines like “sikh phulvari” are very helpful too.

Khalsa School Registration

The GNFA Khalsa School will be registering students at GNFA on August 5, 12, 19 and 26th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon in Room # 3.

Orientation will occur on September 2nd. Classes will begin the following week on September 9th. Classes will be held from 9:30 AM to 12:00 noon (please note that KG and the HS Gurmat classes will start at 10:00 AM)

All students will need to register, this includes any and all returning students and slots are based on a first-come first-serve basis.

Admission Levels:

  • Kindergarten (born before Sept 30, 2008)
  • Elementary School (Grades 1 – 5)
  • Middle School (Grades 6 – 8)
  • Panjabi for All (Adult Class
  • HS Gurmat Class (For teenagers only)

The tuition fee is $150 per student per year payable to GNFA. Registration Form is attached

We encourage all parents to become GNFA members.

School teaching is based on Sojhi curriculum provided by Sikh Research Institute for KG through 8th grade. Curriculum includes Boli (language art – Panjabi & Gurmukhi) and Virsa (Sikh history and Gurmat).

GNFA Merit Award & Graduate Recognition

On July 15th, GNFA Chairperson, Dr. Arvinder Kaur Uppal presented $2,000 Merit Award to Ajit Singh Gill who will continue his college education Honors Program – School of Business at the George Washington University, Washington DC.

Every year GNFA gives one $2,000 Merit Award to a college bound High School graduate. Criteria for the award: GPA and SAT score; involvement in the GNFA activities; GNFA membership of individual and parents; score in an extempore – Sikhi related essay; and, an interview.

Education Committee compiles the list of qualified candidates and pass on to Judges.

Finally, an independent panel of three (3) judges pickup the winner based on essay6, interview and one’s achievements in and outside of GNFA Community. All achievement awards, accreditation and citations are carefully evaluated.

Four (4) meritorious students (all with weighted GPA of over 4.00) applied for this Award. Evaluation score indicated, it was a close competition. In right prospective, they are all winners, however, our congratulations go to Ajit Singh. Ajit is son of Kirandeep Kaur and Kuljit Singh Gill.

Also, on Sunday, July 15th, GNFA recognized sixteen (16) – College (5), and High School (11) graduates of GNFA Community.

Year 2012, graduates were:

College – Navneet Kaur Sehdev; Beneta Kaur Ahuja; Sidak Kaur; Jyoti Sardana; Hirdesh Matta.

High School – Nihal Singh; Ajit Singh Gill; Nimarta Kaur Chowdhary; Prabhleen Kaur; Raveena Kaur Ahuja; Amreen Kaur; Navneet Kaur; Haneet Singh; Sahib Singh; Rishab Khatri and Talwinder Kaur Nagi. Every graduate got GNFA Certificate and a gift pack from Khalsa School, containing Sikhi related books and DVDs.

We are so proud of our Graduates, and wish them all, best of luck in their studies and future life.
