Prakash Purab Guru Nanak Dev Ji – Thursday November 10, 2011

We are celebrating this the Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji on Sunday Thursday November 1, 2011.  A special fireworks program will occur following the completion of Diwan.  The program outline is as follows for Thursday November 10, 2011:

  • Paath Rehraas Sahib: 7:00-7:30PM
  • Kirtan Stree Satsang: 7:30-8:15PM
  • Kirtan Bhai Ompal Singh Ji: 8:15-8:45PM
  • Kirtan Bhai Jagmohan Singh Ji: 8:45-9:15PM
  • Fireworks: 9:30 PM
Guru Nanak Dev Ji
Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Gurus of the Sikhs, was born in the village of Talwandi.  Guru Nanak was born on 15 April 1469, now celebrated as Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.  Noting this however, Sikhs now celebrate this auspicious event each year on the full moon day in November thus the date changes from one year to the next.Programs on Friday November 11 and Sunday November 13
There will also be a special program on the evening of Friday November 11.  Both Diwan’s on Sunday November November 13 will mark this special occasion.  Click on the image below for more details.

Prakash Utsav of Sri Guru Ram Das ji – Sunday October 9, 2011

We are celebrating this Gurpurab in both the dewans on Sunday October 21, 2011

The Fourth Guru
Guru Ram Das JiGuru Ram Das was the fourth of the Ten Gurus and became Guru on 16 September 1574 as following in the footsteps of Guru Amar Das ji. Guru Ram Das’ original name was Bhai Jetha.  He became Guru at age 40 and had life span of 47 years.

The Guru Granth Sahib contains 688 Hymns from Guru Ram Das and his Bani is also contained in Rehras Sahib and Kirtan Sohila.

The Sikh marriage ceremony, the Anand Karaj, is centered around the four stanza hymn composed by Guru Ram Das ji.

Construction of the Harmandir Sahib (Darbar Sahib, Golden Temple) was initiated by Guru Ram Das and completed by his successor, Guru Arjan Dev ji.
